As the federal
election is over Justin Trudeau becomes a new Prime Minister. Liberals under
Trudeau’s leadership will form majority government after winning 184 ridings in
Monday’s elections.
New Prime Minister
Justin Trudeau said Canada has voted for change and hope.
Canadians made a
sharp change in their politics by ending right wing Conservative Stephen
Harper’s leadership direction.
Stephen Harper will
step down as Conservative’s leader following the result. Conservative Party
will initiate a leader selection process. The party is expected to issue an
announcement about Harper’s resign and leader selection process of the Party.
Truedau legacy
continues.
His father grabbed
the power in 1968 and was the prime minister until 1984. Some called it
Trudeaumania.
The son of late
Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, became Canada’s new elected prime minister by
winning a majority of 338 seats at the Parliament.
The Liberals
finished with 39.5 per cent of the votes while Conservatives completed with
31.9 per cent. NDP came third grabbing 19.7 per cents of the votes and Bloc
Quebecois with 4.7 per cent and Green Party with 3.5 per cent.
43 year old school
teacher and a Parliament member Justin Trudeau is now the second youngest prime
minister in Canadian history.
After losing votes
in four years ago, Liberal Party, with Trudeau, gained its former strength.
Time will show if he stabilize its position as his father who run Canada for 16
years after taking his office in 1968.
Trudeau was so glad
with the elections results. He said, “We have a change to bring real change to Canada and bring an end to the
Harper decade” in Alberta, Conservatives’ traditional stronghold.
Conservative Party
increased its seats in the last three elections. In the federal elections, Stephen
Harper’ attempt to underline Trudeau as too inexperienced for the highest
office of the country did not work.
56 years old Harper
was in power for the last nine years and 13 years as Conservative Party leader.
In his speech to
CBC’s The National during the campaign Stephen Harper signaled that he did not
have any intention of trying to form a coalition if he did not win the majority
of the seats.
Canada prompted its
shift from center-right under Harper, who was the creator of much debated legislations
mainly Bill C-24 and C-51. He also lowered sales and corporate taxes and
avoided climate change legislation.
Harper was so
criticized about his party’s slow and inconsistent response to the Syrian
crisis and his own court battle over against wearing of the niqab at
citizenship ceremonies. His party’s revisions in citizenship and immigration
laws were highly criticized as well.
As an immigration consultant
I would like to see Trudeau will sweep Conservative’s mess in citizenship and
immigration policies.
