Newfoundland and Labrador Introduces Its New Program “Priority Skills”

Canada’s Atlantic province Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) introduces its new immigration category to attract skilled immigrants to the province. 

The new category “Priority Skills” will accept new immigrants under the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP). Priority Skills will target high educated and skilled candidates with work experience especially in technology industry.

This program is expected to start on January 2, 2021.

As other provinces, NL is also experiencing skills shortage in certain industries. The new category will help the province to attract new skilled immigrants to fill positions quickly.

Memorial University graduates completed Master or PhD programs will be able to apply under this program if their degrees are related to information and communication technology, ocean tehncology, healthcare, agriculture and aquaculture.

Foreign skilled workers having work experience in the following occupations will also be considered.

Electrical Engineer,

Mechanical Engineer,

Infrustructure Engineer,

Software Developer,

Biomedical Engineer,

UI/UX Developer,

AI Developer,

Python Developer,

.NET Developer,

Security Specialist,

Cloud Specialist,

Bioformatician,

Computer Network Support

In order to apply under this category, applicants should also demonstrate their language ability in English by taking IELTS or CELPIP examinations.

Currenlty there are five different categories accepting applications under NLPNP. These are 1-Express Entry Skilled Worker Category, 2-Skilled Worker Category, 3-International Graduate Category, 4-International Entrpreneur Category and 5-International Graduate Entreprenur Category.
